40,000 euros for More Safety on The Road

TKS Ludwig will equip its entire truck fleet with turning assistants by the end of 2020

Hamburg – 04.05.2020 – Transport- & Kombiservice Jürgen Ludwig GmbH & Co. KG plays it safe. The Hamburg-based transport service provider plans to retrofit its entire truck fleet with the new assistance systems by the end of the year. Around 75 percent of the 50 vehicles are already using the combined camera and monitor equipment. Ordered new vehicles receive the equipment from the manufacturer.

With the investment, the transport company is already fulfilling its responsibility before the EU-wide legal launch date in 2022. State grants for retrofitting were only granted for 8 vehicles.

“We invest early and already voluntarily equip some of our trucks with modern turning assistants,” says Sandra Ludwig, Managing Director of Transport- & Kombiservice Jürgen Ludwig GmbH & Co. KG. “This way we can give our drivers more safety and also protect other road users from accidents.”

The systems are so-called camera monitor systems (CMS). The CMS expand the driver’s field of vision and thus enable him to monitor the blind spot. The new system activates itself at a speed of less than 40 km / h and warns the driver of obstacles in turn situations. At higher speeds, the system is switched on using the turn signal. The first reaction of the drivers was very positive, said Ludwig. “Our drivers now feel safer, especially in areas with high pedestrian and cyclist traffic.” Another aspect is the better overview when maneuvering backwards.
