Seeland Lends More Weight to Climate Protection

The Heavy-Goods Logistics Company Has Joined the Hamburg Environmental Partnership

Hamburg – 09.07.2020 – Gustav Seeland is now a member of the Hamburg Environmental Partnership. Alongside 1,200 other companies from the region, the transportation specialist aims to put Hamburg in pole position when it comes to climate and environmental protection. By joining the initiative—which was set up by the Hamburg Senate, the Chamber of Commerce, and port association Unternehmensverband Hafen Hamburg e.V.—the heavy-goods logistics company is underscoring its commitment to do more to improve energy efficiency and reduce Hamburg’s CO2 emissions.

As a result, Gustav Seeland will now also be analyzing and assessing all investments and operational processes from a sustainability standpoint, in line with the principle of “Think green, act blue.” In order to keep pace with future developments, Gustav Seeland will be relying on both its ÖKOPROFIT certification and state-of-the-art technology, such as the acquisition of an electric pick-and-carry crane or the retrofitting of two specialist cranes with hybrid power trains. Seeland also plans to invest in hybrid technology for its company vehicle fleet—and set up a corresponding charging infrastructure. Economical LED lamps are used to light the entire company premises. The firm also intends to enhance route management in order to avoid deadhead journeys, with all measures supported by energy scouts trained in-house.

“Gustav Seeland not only wants to help protect the climate through the partnership, but is also aiming to grow sustainably,” explains Babette Tabel, Environmental Officer at Gustav Seeland. “We hope to benefit from the support and advice of our partners in the Chamber of Commerce and Senate when it comes to energy efficiency and funding.” Johann Evers, CEO of Gustav Seeland, adds: “Joining the Environmental Partnership opens up new opportunities for us on the heavy-goods logistics market. We not only have access to a network of environmentally conscious Hamburg-based companies, but can also share knowledge via the network.”

Against the backdrop of climate change, the company believes that championing climate protection is the responsibility of society as a whole—for the sake of future generations.
