Colossus Logistics Creates Space

The HavelPort near Berlin is growing rapidly

Wustermark – August 9, 2021 – The Berlin large-capacity and heavy transport specialist Colossus Logistics is increasing its commitment in the HavelPort in Wustermark, Brandenburg. The port area is to be expanded by 50 percent. Instead of the previous 28,000 square meters, 42,000 square meters will be available for cargo handling after completion of the project in autumn 2021. Mainly bulk and bulk goods such as wood chips, grit or fertilizer are to be stored and reloaded at the quay. Colossus Logistics intends to continue to use the existing port area for the handling and storage of heavy goods such as railway wagon modules. HavelPort Berlin GmbH, a Colossus Logistics company, is providing 2.7 million euros to expand the quay facilities and the latest loading technology.

Colossus Logistics expects the investment to expand its portfolio for transport and storage services while increasing efficiency at the same time. With the expansion and operation of the HavelPort, the company also wants to use synergy effects and further strengthen its market position.

“The further development of the HavelPort, its proximity to Berlin and the connection to the European inland waterway network give us the opportunity to offer almost any type of transport,” says Klaus Pietack, managing partner of HavelPort Berlin GmbH. “Whether wood chips for the Moabit thermal power station or heavy goods for the Ruhr area – everything can be temporarily stored and handled in the HavelPort,” the managing director continues. Colossus Logistics and HavelPort Berlin GmbH expect 150 arrivals and departures by inland waterways and an additional turnover of around 100,000 tons annually. By expanding and offering new services, the attractiveness of the Wustermark location is to be further increased.

With their commitment to inland shipping and new port facilities, the responsible party also want to set an example for sustainable business and growth. This becomes particularly clear when it comes to the goal of shifting more road transport to inland waterway vessels. Environmental aspects are also playing an increasingly important role in logistics. In addition, electrical equipment will be used in the loading technology in the future.

According to the previous plans, the expansion of the HavelPort and the commissioning of the new terminal area should take place in the fourth quarter of 2021.
